Will the microsoft surface be a good idea for the future?

Q. So I've been doing research on the surface for months now and I am a little scared to buy it. When I tried it out I found that the office app is actually only a previewwhich was a dissapointment because that was one of the reasons i decided to consider this tablet. I researched more and fond that it can be upgraded in the settings. Is this true? Another thing I am worried about is that later on when office 2013 becomes old I can't install the newer version because there is no disc drive which also won't let me read the newer versions display. Is there another way? If not do you think I can upgrade it the same way you can upgrade it from the preview version? Thank you. Multiple answers are welcome. Also if you can propose another tab with keyboard, windows 8, and is under $600 that would be great.

A. get the Microsoft surface RT
it really is an amazing tablet
it has a 10.6" screen with very good and high resolution
colors look clear and sharp on it
the tablet build quality is amazing
it feels perfect and its made from solid materials
the os on the tablet which is windows 8 is also amazing
its fast and fluid and also simple and easy to use
its made with touch in mind
the web browser is extremely good its fast and pages load up quickly
and it supports flash which is a huge plus and which is something that is lacking on most android tablets and all ios tablets
battery life is very good and would easily get you through more than 10 hours of heavy use
you can download apps from the windows marketplace which has many high quality apps
thousands of apps are being added everyday
more than 2000 apps were added in less than 2 days
it does have more than 20000 apps now and like I said it will keep on increasing
it has dual cameras and both of them take amazing photos and videos
it has deep social network integration(skype, facebook, twitter, linkedin and so on)
you also get Microsoft office 2013 for free on it
and if you get the keyboard and attach it to it you'll have a laptop
overall the surface is an amazing tablet and you should get it
hope i helped :)
tell me if you decided to

can i use SQL to create a database for my mobile app?
Q. can i use SQL server 2005 to create and manage a database of games scores for a mobile phone game application that i am using Adobe Flash MX Professional to build?
well i want to keep track of high scores, save and update them. can i use a simple text file to do that? and if yes how?

A. SQL Server would work fine for this application - with the understanding this is a distributed client / server application. Having said that - if you do decide to build this in Flash I feel compelled to tell you that:

1) You will have better luck building this application in Adobe Flex rather than Adobe Flash because Flex is geared more towards business applications (Input/Process/Output) like this

2) Flash only runs on a few phones running the Android O.S. and will NEVER run on or be ported to the iPhone. Macintosh has made this very clear. I do not know what Microsoft has plans for - I imagine if they don't already, they will eventually support it on thier smart phone.

UPDATE: LOL - The database WOULD NOT / CAN NOT run on the mobile device. They don't make databases for mobile phones...

@Jim: While I am sure somebody will try to do this (not with MySQL, more likely HSQLDB) - what is the point. Who is going to connect to it? The whole point of a database of that nature is to distribute the data to other clients. Not to mention the disk space of a minimum of 180 mb w/o data, memory (20 mb of RAM at idle) not to mention CPU cycles to crunch data. Mobile phones connect to data primarily through web services via a web server that connects to a database server. The phone only needs to know how to query the data and display the results. Simple SOAP calls and XML responses are needed. The database is on the other end of the spectrum.

Earnest: The paradigm for this type of application is this.

1) Build a database to maintain scores and your clients accessing these scores
2) Build a service that will retrieve these scores by whatever filter you wish to use
3) Build a mobile phone app to poll the service based on your filter and to read and display the scores via your presentation layer.

You will need a hosting provider - I highly suggest you consider learning coldfusion as it is the easiest language to learn with a lower than normal learning curve. Likewise - coldfusion will create your web services for you automatically via CFC's It's a good beginner project - I would encourage you to look into it.

My experience: 15 years software architecture and engineering, seasoned professional in Java, .Net and ColdFusion to name a few. Good luck :-)

Lastly - If all you are doing is saving the score from a game you created on the phone. No, you cannot write to the phone. Flash is not allowed to write to the system for security reasons. Adobe AIR can though - but it won't run on a phone either
