Are HTC and Samsung Sick of Google's Android Operating System?

Are major phone companies preparing to ditch the Android mobile operating system?
Samsung WaveIt’s an interesting question. Samsung recently introduced a new line of Wave phones using its own Bada operating system, and word out this week is that Taiwan-based HTC might be looking to move in a similar direction, perhaps by purchasing WebOS from HP. On August 18, HP announced that it was discontinuing its WebOS line of devices, including the HP TouchPad tablet and the yet-to-be-released HP Pre 3 smartphone.
The companies may have started to worry about Android after learning last month that

DROID BIONIC Review

Smartphone users are a demanding lot. Give them the latest version of Android, big displays and 4G LTE connectivity, and they ask for a dual-core processor as well. Until now it’s been too much to ask of Verizon, but all that changed with the arrival of the much-anticipated DROID BIONIC by Motorola this week. Announced back at CES in January and then variously updated and delayed since, Verizon promises that this is the fastest 4G phone around. Is this finally the LTE Android to satisfy speed-freaks? Could Android Jelly Bean Be the Successor to Ice Cream Sandwich?

Slow news day? How else to explain the buzz being generated by a thisismynext.com report about potential codenames for Google's follow up to its upcoming Android mobile operating system?

The follow-up to Google's current-generation Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS that's affectionately known as Ice Cream Sandwich won't even be arriving until October or November, according to Google. That said, interest in all things Android has certainly kept pace with the operating system's growing importance in the smartphone and tablet markets.

Additionally, our source tells us he’s hearing that the “game-changing stuff” that had originally been

It turns out that Best Buy will be the outlet exclusively selling the white Droid Incredible 2. This information comes

Android Camera Shootout: 13 Phones Put to the Test

Over the past month, how many photos have you taken with your smartphone versus your stand-alone camera? Sure, for special events or portraits, you’ll probably want to use an advanced point-and-shoot, an interchangeable-lens camera, or a DSLR--but when you’re on the go, a phone with a good camera is more than sufficient. At the very least, you’ll want a phone capable of taking photos that are decent enough to share, whether it’s with your Facebook friends or via email to your relatives.

Review: Motorola's Newest DROID 3

Improved Motorola DROID 3Motorola Inc. launched its newest line of DROID model. With heavier power and greater reactivity, the DROID 3 features dual-core speed and bright qHD display. The DROID 3 is different from the DROID that was released in 2009 and DROID 2 in 2010. In terms of internal and external design and characteristics, the DROID 3 is impressive. Compared to other DROIDs, the DROID 3 is more powerful with enhanced features. This smartphone has thinnest QWERTY and it is considered the answer from previous DROIDs’s flaws. Verizon's new Motorola Droid Bionic and LG Enlighten show up in photos

By Florin on 05 Aug 11

We can’t say we haven’t seen Verizon’s redesigned Motorola Droid Bionic until now. The handset has appeared in photos and renders a few times, but it’s always good to see more of it. Three fresh images have been spotted over at Droid-life, showing the Bionic next to the Samsung Droid Charge (which is already available at Verizon).
The Droid Bionic seems to be a bit bigger than Samsung’s device. This may mean it has a 4.5 inch screen, not a 4.3 inch one (but we can’t be sure about that until Motorola says so). All will be clear in

Motorola Droid 3 – Verizon Wireless (Review)

The Droid 3 is the third iteration of Motorola’s iconic premium line following the debut of the original Droid in late 2009 and the Droid 2 in 2010. The latest model sets itself apart from the rest in terms of design and features. This smart phone is larger than previous generation models and shows several signs of improvement. Motorola did a fine job addressing many concerns that came with the Droid and Droid 2. While there are many reasons to call this device impressive, it still has its faults like every other phone on the market. For dimensions, the Droid 3 is 64.1 mm wide by 123.3 mm

Replacing a cracked LCD on your smartphone? Yes, you CAN do it yourself

It's the sight no one wants to see: a spider web of cracks all over your smartphone's LCD screen. I was very happy with my nice little HTC Droid Incredible until I dropped it from the top of Coney Island's Cyclone roller coaster. I didn't buy insurance for it (such extended warranties are a bad deal for most people) and I wasn't anywhere near the end of my new-in-two Verizon contract (which would have let me buy a heavily discounted new phone). Samsung's full opposition filing isn't yet public as it was filed under seal, but FOSS Patents has reported on one element the company plans to use in its defense: that the appearance of a device in a work of science fiction could be referenced as

Motorola Droid 3 Review

TweetShareEmail
Usually, when a new Droid phone is rumored to be headed to shelves, people are beside themselves. Case in point, the Motorola Droid Bionic. Yet, when the Motorola Droid 3 began leaking out, there was far less interest than there had been for previous Droid devices.
Why? Well, for one, Verizon completely overshadowed the launch by announcing new tiered data plans but that’s not the real reason.
The real reason is that Verizon has released a new, next-generation 4G LTE network. It’s the network of the future and Verizon expects it to

HP TouchPad flameout leaves Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to fend off iPad 2

August 22, 2011 Beatweek by Johnny MajorIn the end, the HP TouchPad never had a chance. It was Hewlett Packard’s RC Cola to Apple’s iPad Coke and Samsung’s Android Pepsi. And with the HP TouchPad gone in a brief blaze of geek praise and mainstream shunning ultimately adding up to a whole lot of nothing, the battle is now on between the iPad 2 and a contingent of Android-based tablets led by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. We’ll ignore, for the moment, that the Tab borrows so startlingly from the iPad’s hardware design that Apple has successfully managed to get it banned from

More evidence of upcoming LTE iPhone: Apple hiring LTE field test engineers

While most believe that the next-generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, will not sport Long-Term Evolution (LTE) hardware, the evidence that Apple isn't wasting any time testing it continues to build.
Earlier, evidence that carriers were testing LTE-based iPhones using a build or iOS 5 was spied in a .plist file in one of the latest iOS 5 beta builds. Additionally, leaked images showed LTE test equipment installed at a "major" Apple store.

Samsung Galaxy tablet has edge for 4G use

More than halfway through the year of the tablet, the iPad has finally met its match with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
But two other recently released tablets, the HTC Evo View 4G and HP TouchPad, don't quite measure up to Apple's top-selling device.
At 1.2 pounds and 0.34-inch thick, the Galaxy is slightly lighter than and just as sleek as the iPad 2. Applications load fast and run smooth on the Galaxy, equipped with a dual-core 1 GHz processor. The device supports Flash video playback, an advantage over the iPad.

Is The Droid Bionic Too Late to Be This Expensive?

So you may have heard the good/bad news. The Motorola Droid Bionic is likely going to be launching on September 8th and when it does, it’s probably going to have an off-contract price of $590 and an on-contract price of $299. At least through Verizon. Retailers are probably going to have some better offers but we can’t be too sure about that.
This means that Motorola and Verizon obviously didn’t pay any attention to the five things I thought the Droid Bionic would need to survive a launch in September. The very first point I had on

Verizon Retiring Samsung Fascinate: What Will Replace It?

The original Samsung Galaxy S model for Verizon Wireless, known as the Fascinate, is getting retired by the carrier nearly a year after the device launched. The retired status of the phone means that it will probably be hard to find the phone in the future as Verizon will probably just sell out current inventory of the device rather than continue to order new shipments. The cycle seems natural as the carrier is about to launch a number of new devices on its network.

Samsung Ought to Be Embarrassed and Ashamed

Samsung used to be a consumer electronics brand that I appreciated and admired. I've owned several Samsung products over the years; in fact, I use one every day. I have a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD 24-inch monitor. It's a thing of beauty, actually, with a pleasing clear polycarbonate sort of frame with a touch of deep red layered beneath the clear plastic-like housing. I love it. The display is plenty sharp for me, quite adjustable, and best yet, this unit is also an HDTV and accepts all sorts of video input cables. When I bought it a couple of years ago, I found its overall feature set -- and
