how do i network my tablet , computer and tv wirelessly?

Q. my friend has all the mac stuff. and has all his stuff hooked up wireless. so he can use his tv as the computer screen. or run netflix through his ipad and the movie pops up on the tv kind of like the ipad is being used as a remote. if im not mistaken i think he uses mac airplay. is there something similar i can use that is android/windows?

A. Apple has some propriety apps/protocols that their devices can use to work together on a network, but you can do most of the same functions with other systems and a regular wireless network. You'll just need a wireless router that you can connect all of your devices to so that they can access the Internet. A wireless-N router would be best and would provide the longest lifespan in terms of speeds since it's the latest WiFi revision out.

Once your iPad is connected to the WiFi you can use the Netflix app to stream movies to it, or watch Hulu, etc. Same with your TV, game console, etc.

Tablet for power points in class and once in awhile productivity?
Q. Talk about first world problems but I've been really struggling with what tablet I should choose. I'd like to use a tablet in class for reviewing lecture slides as the professor goes along as well as creating simple spreadsheets (although the more functionality the better) for when I'm in research. The ability to present a power point would also be great. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FFa5YGPVIs)

The options (in my mind):
1. Nexus 10
2. Microsoft Surface
3. IPad 4

Nexus 10 likes:
High res display
best internal hardware
100 dollars cheaper when purchased from google play
can probably get away with doing all the tasks of the other two..and is 100 dollars cheaper.

dislikes:
Not a champ for productivity
poorer battery life than almost any competitor.

M Surface:
Nice hardware
10.6" screen (I feel like bigger the better for productivity and I really like the added size) but still about as light as the others.
Lots of additional functionality like a file system, Microsoft office RT, USB support
would be nice to support Microsoft for once.

Dislikes:
outdated hardware (Tegra 3 processor)
probably would need the expensive cover/keyboard which I'm not sure I'd like to type on.

Ipad Likes:
Obvious benefits of greatest app selection, new great hardware, Airplay for apple tv.
Resale value.

Dislikes:
I really don't like being locked into Macs selection of apps. I feel like they are trying to limit my world and the content I view. They don't allow developers to use any SDK other than theirs for new web browsers and I just don't trust them.

So if you had to buy one of these tablets with your own money, for productivity purposes, which would you buy?

A. if you want a tablet that has full laptop functionality then you should
get the Microsoft surface RT
it really is an amazing tablet
it has a 10.6" screen with very good and high resolution
colors look clear and sharp on it
the tablet build quality is amazing
it feels perfect and its made from solid materials
the os on the tablet which is windows 8 is also amazing
its fast and fluid and also simple and easy to use
its made with touch in mind
the web browser is extremely good its fast and pages load up quickly
and it supports flash which is a huge plus and which is something that is lacking on most android tablets and all ios tablets
battery life is very good and would easily get you through more than 10 hours of heavy use
you can download apps from the windows marketplace which has many high quality apps
thousands of apps are being added everyday
more than 2000 apps were added in less than 2 days
it does have more than 40,000 apps now and like I said it will keep on increasing
it has dual cameras and both of them take amazing photos and videos
it has deep social network integration(skype, facebook, twitter, linkedin and so on)
you also get Microsoft office 2013 for free on it
and if you get the keyboard and attach it to it you'll have a laptop
overall the surface is an amazing tablet and you should get it
hope i helped :)

choosing between the ipad and galaxy tab?
Q. okay well for starts i used to be a apple fanboy untill my iphone got stolen and i started using an old galaxy nexus smartphone. completely in love with the andriod operating system, the fact that there's so much more room to customize is amazing. also the iphone being to 'restricted' in terms of the whole bluetooth and the fact that downloading certain files is non existent.
i want to buy a tablet of some sort to use for skyping, facebook, youtube and internet surfing here and there. i hear the galaxy tab is far superior then the ipad but the fact that my home theatre system has the feature airplay and correct me if im wrong here but thats only compatible with apple products.
If i were to buy and ipad it'd be the ipad 2 and to the contrary id get the galaxy tab 10.1 (both 16gb)
if i get a galaxy tab is there a way to controll my home theatre and tv?

A. You may be able to connect to an AirPlay system...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zappotvapple&hl=en

but being Android there is no guarantee that it will work for your particular set up. As you seem to be content just customising your devices rather than actually doing anything useful a Galaxy Tab will be ideal for you.

If I get an AppleTV, Can I use AirPlay to stream Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu Plus and Blockbuster @Home from my iPad?
Q. to my HDTV?

A. yes, but if you get a google tv bluray player (more specifically the Sony NSZ-GT1) it will do that and so much more, including a fully functional web browser, stocked android market, and yes, airplay ( with $0.99 Airtight App). I have them both and my apple tv is pretty much obsolete

What tablet, pad or playbook should i get?

Q. I'm interested in buying a tablet, pad or playbook etc.

What's the top ones out there and why should I buy it?

A. Depends on your needs and how much you want to spend. If you need just to browse the internet and access emails you can go with any Android tablet like Google 7" or xoom. But if want more flavor to it then go with iPad3. Ipad will do almost everything except anything to do with Adobe flash.

I have the first version of iPad with 64Gb, i use it almost for everything. Most live streaming websites are based on flash and hence cannot watch them. I use my Mac Book Air hooked to a large TV. I can use Airplay via my apple tv2 as well....

What i seen people who have android tablet, have purchased an iPad within 9 months. This is within my family and friends circle.

How to create themes and any other application of mobile?

Q. Actually, I want to ask which software or which application should be used by me to create mobile applications, themes, games and so on.
For best answer 10 points and also huge amount of thanks. Please don't write answers which doesn't give my question's answer for 2 points. I want answers with accuracy. Its not a joke.

A. I don't understand what you mean by 'themes'.

For applications it will depend on which mobile platform you're targeting.

iphone is the biggy. The traditional way to develop for iphone is on a Mac, using Xcode as the environment and Objective C *sigh* as the language.

if you're targeting Android, traditionally you'll be coding in Java, (so use eclipse as your environment).

There are other devices out there of course, but I'm no expert on any of this.

If you're serious, I'd recommend a cross platform mobile engine. I've played with the Airplay SDK a little, and it seems really good - you can program in C++ and deploy to iphone, android, symbian and more. Also Unity supports android and iphone now (but is quite expensive, and is really just for games).

What is the best home theater in-a-box for under $500?
Q. If this includes a Blu-Ray player, or has one built in, I will go up to $700.
Bonus question: What is the new standard for surround sound? When I stopped following this stuff in the early 2000's it was 5.1 channels. That's what most DVDs supported, and that is the amount of speakers most home theater systems had. Is it now 7.1 speakers or more?

A. All-in-one kits with a built-in DVD or BD player are not good. You do seem to get a lot of toys, but the basics are missing: Quality amplification = No. Variety of inputs = No. Upgradeable components = No. You'd be far better off looking at a Blu-ray player + AV Receiver + 5.1 speaker package (satellites & active sub).

Firstly the Blu-ray player. You've allocated up to $200 for this. For under $150 you can have a Panasonic or Sony 3D Blu-ray player with wireless networking. If you are not bothered about 3D and have no plans to change your TV for a 3D capable one in the near future then save some bucks here and just go for a basic one, but the price difference is shrinking all the time so the saving might be less than $20 so why not have the 3D player anyway. There's no issue mixing brands either between the BD player and the audio gear.

As for home cinema kits, Onkyo and Denon and Yamaha all make packages with decent AV Receivers and speaker kits as a bundle. Most are 3D capable, and a few are 7.1. My view on 5.1 vs 7.1 is go for it if you have an unlimited budget and a really big room. However, if you're working to a strict budget then it's better to do 5.1 well than stretch things and do 7.1 badly.

New sound formats - The important ones for performance are DTS-Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD for Blu-ray audio, and Dolby ProLogicII (DPLII) for any stereo sources you want to have in surround. All of the kits I'll recommend do these formats.

ARC - Audio Return Channel. This is new feature added in the latest version of HDMI - the 1.4 version. If your TV and AV Receiver have the ARC feature then you no longer need an optical connection to get sound from the TV back to the surround kit. The HDMI cable will carry sound back.

Other things to consider... Blu-ray players often have streaming features (YouTube etc) and also require periodic firmware updates to cope with new encoding and features on discs. This is done via the net. A wired network connection is best but wireless will do too. There's also a good chance that the receiver you get might have internet radio or AirPlay. Once again a wired network connection back to your wireless router will allow you to access thousands of internet radio stations and enable you to stream music from your WiFi connected smartphone or tablet to the receiver.

Traps to avoid: "Super performance" HDMI cables. The HDMI connections from your Blu-ray player to the AV Receiver, and from the Receiver to the TV don't need $50 cables. As long as the cable is rated High Speed and meets the HDMI 1.4 spec and is of decent construction then all will be well. Avoid the cheapest the Ebay or the web has to offer. Those really tend to be crappy. $10 is a reasonable amount for a 3-5 ft cable.

All the following have HD audio decoding, DPLII

Yamaha YHT397BL - simple 5.1 surround system sold via the electrical barns. 3D and with ARC. $449

Yamaha YHT497BL - alternative to 397 - sold via specialist dealers. $430-£479. The 397 has the same basic spec but better speakers.

Yamaha YHT597BL - step-up model with net radio, AirPlay, Yamaha SmartPhone app (Android & Apple) which works remarkably well. $549

Onkyo HTS3500 - simple 5.1 surround system sold via the electrical barns. 3D and with ARC. Passive sub to keep costs down. $399

Onkyo HTS5500 - step-up model - 7.1 surround system, more power, better speakers, smarter auto set-up system (Audyssey 2). $599

Denon DHT-1513BA - pitched at the upgrader market - Better amp (discrete channels) and packaged with a 3rd party speaker kit from specialist manufacturer Boston Acoustics. The spec won't look as impressive but trust me, this kit is all about performance rather than bling. $599

Hope this helps :-)

Should I get the Iphone 4s?

Q. Well I was thinking about finally upgrading my phone to a new one and I was thinking about an iPhone. I am going to switch from an android to my first ios. I was wondering if I should get it because the iPhone 5 came out not too long ago and people are saying that it has a lot of advantages over the iPhone 4s. Problem with iPhone 5 is that it dosen't support t-mobile so I cant get it. I can get an unlocked iPhone 4s and use it with t mobile. Can you list the pros and cons of the iPhone 4s and if I should get as my first apple product?

Thank You!

A. Iphones vs. Android conflict: the iPhones don't have flash, but the androids do. If you don't need flash, then I guess it doesn't really matter.

Anyways, here are pros & cons of the iPhone 4S.

Pros:
New camera The 8MP camera with simple editing features (crop, rotate, enhance, and red-eye reduction), a backside illumination sensor, and larger aperture (for better low-light and white balance correction) make the iPhone 4S's camera one that competes with regular point-and-shoots. It will also come with face detection and image stabilization and the ability to capture HD 1080p video.
Faster processor The custom A5 chip in the iPhone 4S is the same one you'll find on the iPad 2, which means the iPhone 4S will be faster in processing speeds, games, and downloads.
More carriers Since the iPhone 4S is compatible with CDMA and GSM cellular bands, you can use it in more places around the globe. Even on Sprint's network, if you're looking for a change.
Siri integration Apple's new Assistant feature basically turns the iPhone 4S into a voice recognizing personal assistant. The demo during the keynote was impressive and highlighted some interesting uses for the blind, hands-free texting, and more.
Wireless syncing Raise the roof for wireless sync! This will be an iOS 5 feature that will be compatible for the iPad and iPod Touch as well, but I couldn't help but mention the fact that you'll soon be able to set up your devices and get updates without connecting your iDevice to a Mac or PC.
Airplay If you've got an Apple TV, the iPhone 4S will allow you to stream what's playing on your device to your HDTV with Airplay, which is built right into the new iPhone.
Fingerprint resistant The iPhone 4S has an oleophobic coating on its glass exterior, making it resistant to fingerprints by repelling oils in your fingers.
Read through our iPhone 4S cons, who should buy, and tips for upgrading when you read more.

Cons

No 4G Still no 4G on the iPhone 4S. This is unfortunate, but you may not have to wait too much longer to get fast download speeds on your iDevice analysts believe that Apple is waiting for better LTE chips before adding them into the iPhone, which could be as soon as early next year.
No NFC Mobile payments on the iPhone will have to wait as Apple has excluded NFC (near-field communication) technology on the latest iPhone model. Of course, this won't be a deal breaker for some of you who said you wouldn't use it anyway.
All those leaked case images We've seen too many leaked "iPhone 5" case images to forget about the wider screen, sleek form, and wider body. I'm betting the real iPhone 5 is just around the corner.
Other options Why spend upwards of $199 with a two-year contract when you could spend $99 and get an iPhone 4? Sure, you won't get the 8MP camera and Assistant feature, but it's a really good deal nonetheless. Even better the 3GS is free!
No unlocked models . . . yet If you're an avid traveler, you might want to hold off on purchase for a few months. According to Apple's website, unlocked versions of the iPhone 4S are coming soon.they're already here at amazon.com.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What song is the LATEST song that can lay claim to the title of an "Iconic, Classic, Rock Standard" (Details)?
Q. There are certain songs (whether YOU like them or not...or think they've been overplayed...or just think the song *sucks*) that have attained "immortality" & "iconic" status. Songs such as "Free Bird", "Stairway To Heaven", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Hey Jude", "Another Brick In The Wall", etc.

Just curious to know what song YOU think is the LATEST/MOST RECENT member of that elite group of songs that will still be receiving airplay 50 years from now.

Remember...I'm not asking what your favorite song is right now...I'm looking for a MEGA/EPIC song that can deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the ones mentioned above & will still be listened to by our grand-kids. Any recent songs fit that bill?
As always...links are appreciated!
@Karl Has A Heart Full Of Napalm ~ Good tune...reminds me of Crosby/Stills/Nash/Young.

A. I'm with Karl on this one. Mykonos is fantastic.

Also Paranoid Android by Radiohead is up there.

IPhone 4s or Samsung Galaxy II touch?
Q. Ok people... I just need help choosing one. The one with the most votes will be the one I choose. I heard they're both great phones, but I've been breaking my head because I really don't know which one to get. I've been switching phones a lot so I'd like to stick with one for a while. Help me!!!!

A. The Galaxy S II is one of the thinnest Androids out there, measuring 5.11 x 2.71 x .37 (all inches, HxWxD) and weighing in at 4.77 ounces. The new iPhone, on the other hand, measures in at 4.5 x 2.31 x .37 (all inches, HxWxD) and weighs 4.9 ounces They both come in white and black options, but the iPhone 4S does sport a premium finish with a glass front and back, while the Samsung Galaxy S II has a very thin and sort of flimsy plastic rear casebut this is what makes it so light, so its not necessarily such a flaw.
The Galaxy S II has a larger screen than the iPhone coming in at 4.52 inches compared to 3.5 inches (but remember that the S II is lighter). So the iPhone 4S boasts a 640960 resolution, creating a pixel density of 326ppi, while the Galaxy S II has a bright AMOLED display but it has 480800 resolution, which means it has a pixel density of 216ppi. Looks like the iPhone wins here, but really, both are awesome touchscreen displays.
Obviously, the iPhone 4S runs on IOS 5 and the Galaxy S II on Android. But all the hoopla with the new iPhone was about a new operating system and the latest version is touted as the worlds most advanced mobile operating system, as well as the easiest to use. New features with the upgrade include: notification center, iMessage, Twitter integration, reminders, camera enhancements, better photo editing options, PC free, Safari, Newsstand and Siri, the voice control feature that everybodys taking about. The Multi-Touch interface in the new OS is easier since it was designed for your finer, making it finger friendly. But it still lacks flash support, which is a major downer!
The Samsung Galaxy S II runs Googles Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with its own Touchwiz interface. Its claimed to be more refined and polished, which basically means a more intuitive user interface.
The iPhone 4S has received a processor upgrade, which is an A5 dual-core chip, clocked in at 800MHz and Apple says youll notice the upgrade with its faster responses that make all the difference when youre launching apps, on the web and doing everything else you do on your smartphone these days. And because the A5 chip is so power-efficient, iPhone 4S has outstanding battery life (but more on that later).
Since the Galaxy S II has a wider screen, it was given a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 Processor with 1.5 GHz dual-core CPUs so that it wouldnt freeze while running multiple apps.
Storage is worth a quick mention with a new maximum capacity of 64GB available on the Iphone 4S. The Galaxy S II maxes out with just 16GB, and but it does redeem itself with the inclusion of a microSD card slot that can take a further 32GB, adding more storage for those who like to keep everything on their smartphones. This totals 48GB, so comes but it still comes in short of only 16GB of its rival.
They are both world phones, so globetrotters will be satisfied with both. The Galaxy S II is built and engineered to run on 4G networks, making it super fast, which means no waiting even when you have tons of apps open. Thanks to AllShare, you can also wirelessly share and stream videos, photos and music between your phone and TV, laptop and audio system. With a 4G connection you get up to 42 Mbps down speed and its Bluetooth 3.0 compatible.
The iPhone 4S also has WiFi abilities thanks to AirPrint and AirPlay, which allows you to print wirelessly and wirelessly stream whats on your phone to your HDTV and speakers via Apple TV. It also boasts faster connections since Apple says that the new phone is the first to intelligently switch between two antennas to transmit and receive, making call quality better.
Other than Sira, the other significant iPhone 4S upgrade is its rear-facing camera, which has been bumped up to 8MP from 5MP, and it also has a custom lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture. But the Galaxy S II 8MP camera matches that of the new iPhone 4S, making them even in this category. The details continue to be the same across the board with an LED flash, auto focus and digital zoom. The two are neck-to-neck on video abilities, too, with HD 1080p at 30fps. Both also come with software for photo and video editing.
Apple placed a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery in their new iPhone, with a talk time of up to 8 hours on 3G. Standby time is up to 200 hours, while Internet use is up to 6 hours on 3G and up to 9 on Wi-Fi. Video playback is up to 10 hours and audio playback is up to 40 hours.
Samsung added a rechargeable 1850 mAh lithium-ion battery with talk time pretty much the same with the iPhone so expect 8 hours to be the maximum.
Price
Choose Samsung.

Android or iphone!!!!!!!?
Q. Whats better??

A. well it depends...
if you have lots of apple stuff like an apple TV or a mac then get an iphone because you can airplay and thats really cool
i would say that software wise the iphone is way better as the OS is easier its simple to use and its got really high standards for apps in the app store (so it doesnt get infected or crash)
hardware wise you are probably better with android as it has a better, more robust shell and it has stuff like USB and SD card slots

overall i would say get the apple iphone, but its your choice... maybe look it up on one of those phone comparing websites or something.... happy phone hunting =)

AirPlay from android?

Q. I watch HTML5 movies from Gorillavid streamed from my iphone to my apple tv via airplay. I just replaced my iphone with a galaxy note 2, so is there a way to stream online movies from android to apple tv? (i dont have a smart tv or anything)
Thanks for the answers guys, but do you know it that app (AppleTV AirPlay Media Player) works with HTML5 video streamed online, or just videos saved on the phones internal memory?

Thanks in advance :)

A.

What is the difference between bluetooth and Airplay?
Q. I'm shopping for a home theater and/or wireless speakers for my Android phone and need to know if Airplay, like all products that begin with "I", is proprietary or not. Bluetooth is device agnostic.

A. The only difference between 'em is that they have different way of how the phone is connected..

Good luck!

PC-Android Music Remote?
Q. This might seem a little odd but I was wondering if there was a way to stream your music to your android phone and choose whats playing from your computer? I was thinking this would sort of work like airplay for my speakers so I wouldn't have to be sitting right next to them to be able to play the music on my computer through the speakers and have to get up to change songs.
Thanks!
I've found apps to stream to my phone but you have to choose the song from the phone, which would defeat the purpose of what I'm wondering about.

A. you cant stream music from your computer to android phone you can only control your computer through your android phone with an app but there will be no sound.

develop iphone and android applications with airplay sdk?

Q. Hi, I would like to know if you can develop iphone 4 applications using airplay sdk? airplay sdk is based on c and c++ what is your opinion to develop mobile application on c++? im happy to foun out this airplay sdk because i do not need to buy an apple computer to develop iphone applications.
i believe you can also develop android applications right?

A. As a developer, I believe that cross-platform development standards (like the Airplay SDK) are very convenient, but have many potential pitfalls in deployment.

Anytime you're translating one language into another (C++ to Objective C in this case) you're asking for potential issue depending on the nature and complexity of the app. Optimization can be key in mobile applications development, and translating from one language into another using a standard library can miss out on lots of chances for optimization.

That being said - AirplaySDK seems to do a decent job of things, and many developers use it to create apps which can be deployed across multiple platforms and mediums via a single click, and in answer to your questions, it is specifically designed in part to do just what you ask about, developing iPhone apps.
Checkout their "airplay for iphone" page:

Iphone 4S or Galaxy S2?
Q. Time to let blackberry go, phone upgrade ahead. No idea on which one to get it seems like this is the hardest decision ever. I have an iPad 2 3G already which will let me enjoy every feature of the new iOS 5, but I don't know if that is enough reason to get e Galaxy (which Ive heard is a great phone only for its battery Life which sucks).

Conclusion, I Like the customization ability for Android, but Im a true believer in Apple and everything in my house is apple (big advantage with iCloud, AirPlay, etc).

DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO HELP!!!

PS. no apple or android lovers please just objective opinions are appreciated.

A. get the Samsung android galaxy s2
